The “Fortress Café” at Newhaven Fort

In spring 2023 we completed a further phase of the masterplan for Newhaven Fort with the re-design of the fort’s café.

 

The newly branded “Fortress Café” involved a full re-fit of the existing building  including a complete new kitchen. The new café continued the interpretation approach through the rest of the heritage attraction and evokes the years immediately after the Second World War as de-mobbed servicemen returned to Civvy street, rationing eventually came to an end and the NHS was founded.

 

The decorative scheme picked up on the optimism of the time with posters and interpretive graphics and a large ceramic mural counter front illustrated by Form Atlarge.

 

We were responsible for detail design, graphics and artwork as well as overseeing quality and delivery of the design vision through production and installation.
