Royal Navy of Oman Maritime Experience

Maritime Experience - Muscat Oman
Client: The Royal Navy of Oman

Working in conjunction with Admiralty Consulting we developed a masterplan and conceptual visual for a brand new visitor attraction in Oman looking at Omans rich maritime history; the role of it’s Royal Navy as well as telling of the success of the Shabab Oman, a youth training ship for the Navy which has been in service since 1977 taking part in tall ship competitions all over the World.

The Maritime Experience is not a museum. Instead it offers a series of experiences to tell stories and convey content. We begin with a huge 3D projected ‘You Are Here’ map showing visitors some of the many cultural sights in Oman visitors can explore whilst in the country. This aims to serve the many cruise ship guests who have arrived at Port Sultan Qaboos, from which the attraction resides. Each of the cultural sights are presented in sand globes on the map which when touched trigger a large immersive projection wall giving more information.

A huge immersive show awaits visitors next via a history gallery full of interactive objects. The show starts when visitors board a great wooden Dhow for a fascinating journey through time. From there guests take part in their own Royal Navy mission to stop smugglers using full size helicopter, ships and rib simulators. The whole mission is filmed and is played back for guests on a huge overhead screen showing them their best bits and generally looking like heroes.

Finally, we learn of the Shabab Oman and her crew who sail the World taking part in tall ship competitions and acting as Navy youth ambassadors for the country. Guests are then offered a tour of the ships in harbour as well as relaxing in the café overlooking the attraction.
