Dieppe & D-Day
Client: Newhaven Fort

The Dieppe & D-Day Gallery at Newhaven Fort invites visitors on an immersive journey through two of the most pivotal amphibious operations of the Second World War. Commissioned as part of the fort’s reimagining, the gallery combines dramatic staging and cinematic storytelling with rich historical content to fully engage and inform its audience.

Upon entering, visitors step into a 1940s reception room for HMS Newt, where they’re invited to take a seat and await a briefing from a flustered receptionist.  Around them, snippets of local gossip fill the air, setting the scene before they are  called through to the boardroom.

Inside, visitors meet the “top brass” and witness the story of the Dieppe Raid—its ambition, its cost, and its lessons. Those hard-won lessons would go on to shape  the strategies that led to victory on the beaches of Normandy. The experience concludes with a rapid, insightful journey through the planning and ingenuity behind D-Day, revealing how the Sussex coastline, and Newhaven itself played a vital role in the success of the operation.
